Wooten Grants Consulting has a thoughtful process of working together to do our best to help you meet your goals with minimal stress.
During the initial consultation, we'll discuss the grant(s) you're interested in and get to know each other better.
Our goal is to ensure that your organization is eligible to apply for the grant(s), that your project idea aligns with the grant's purpose, and that we're a good fit for working together.
Once we identify the scope of the project and decide to work together, you’ll receive a quote and contract for grant writing services for the specific grant you want to apply for. At this step, a retainer payment for 50% of the total grant writing fee is due.
Next, we’ll schedule a kick-off meeting so that we can ask for more detailed information about your business and the proposed grant project. Supplemental information can include your website, business plan, marketing plan, or any previous grant proposals.
If you're applying for a federal grant and don't yet have a UEI number from SAM.gov and would like help obtaining one, we include guided assistance with this as part of the service. We can also help you get set up with a Grants.gov account and ensure you have the proper roles assigned to apply for grants.
The grant writing and preparation process includes several layers. It’s a collaborative process in which you’ll need to provide some of the information needed, and we’ll weave your vision into a competitive and compelling grant proposal. We take care to ensure that all proposals are compliant with the technical requirements of grant guidelines, including format, length, alignment, attachments, and submission method.
This process usually takes at least 4-6 weeks. During the process, we communicate with you weekly to provide progress updates and ensure that needed information is received. We typically work via email, Google Docs, phone, and Zoom meetings.
Once all application narrative components have been written and the budget is completed, we’ll let you know that the grant application is ready for your final review. This is to ensure that everything is accurate and that the scope of work proposed is achievable and in line with your organization's goals.
At this step, we’ve already reviewed the grant proposal for thoroughness in addressing the grant goals and evaluation criteria and polished up sentence structure, spelling, grammar, formatting, etc. After you've reviewed and approved it, we’ll plan for your grant's submission.
Now for the best part of the grant writing process: submission. After all the work that goes into putting together your grant application, hitting the Submit button is quite satisfying. We prefer to do this together on Zoom.
Your grant application materials will be in their final form and ready for submission.
If you're familiar with the particular online grant portal and want to upload yourself, we can send you the final materials once they are ready. However, if you’d like help with the submission process (recommended), we are happy to do this for you independently or while we share our screen on Zoom. We'll take a moment to debrief and discuss the timeline for when you should receive a decision from the funding agency on your grant. Then, you’ll receive a final invoice via email.
After we submit your grant, we’re happy to work with you on future grant applications. If (and hopefully, when) your grant is awarded, we also offer grant management services, which include preparing grant reimbursement requests, tracking grant expenditures, and completing grant reports.
We’ll also keep you in mind as new grant opportunities become available, letting you know if we see something that might be a good fit for your organization.
You can also stay informed about grant opportunities through our blog, where we frequently post helpful information and new grants for agriculture, renewable energy, and related projects.

A grant is money given by the government or other organization that funds a specific project or purpose. The money doesn't have to be paid back, but you must be eligible to receive the grant and use it for a particular purpose.
We work with established farms, producers, processors, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations. Your project must be related to agriculture, renewable energy, climate sustainability, water, or a similar cause.
Grant writers can never guarantee results. However, we have an 85% success rate and have won over 200 grants and secured more than $10M in grant funding.
We’re passionate and knowledgeable about the grant writing process and winning grants for agriculture, sustainability, and related projects. Our professional grant writing services are backed by almost a decade of experience. We’ve worked with over 35 farmers, businesses, nonprofits, and colleges throughout the United States.
Although we offer support with the entire grant writing process, we can also assist with smaller grant-related tasks. For example, we can review or edit already-written grants or help manage a grant you’ve already received. Contact us for more information.
